Over the past several years, the federal government has passed various mandates that require all of its facilities to both reduce their overall energy consumption and obtain more of their energy from renewable sources. Although installing renewable energy systems may seem like the obvious choice, it’s absolutely vital to consider where one might first improve a facility’s energy efficiency. ANTARES can help.
Working to reduce your energy consumption (through measures such as installing variable frequency drives on motors, pumps, and fans, adding insulation, retrofitting light fixtures, and evaluating the condition of your boiler systems) can lower annual operating costs and improve occupant comfort. Reducing your energy consumption upfront also means that if you decide to install a renewable energy system later on, you’ll need a smaller system or meet a larger portion of your energy demands.
Appropriate, High-Impact Projects
ANTARES has experience working with federal hospitals, park offices, cemeteries, and other governmental offices to provide detailed energy audits of their existing equipment and determine where the best potential energy savings are to be found. Facility management may already have a good idea of where their facility’s potential energy savings are, which is why ANTARES works closely with staff to address their questions and concerns throughout the auditing process. Our audits encompass:
- Assessment of building equipment and instrumentation (including data collection, as appropriate),
- Identification of potential energy conservation measures (ECMs) based on existing equipment and facility input, and
- Analytical cost/benefit analyses, ranking the potential ECMs and determining their relative energy savings.
ANTARES makes final recommendations on which ECMs should be implemented based on overall energy savings, upfront costs, and impact on facility performance.
Experienced Auditing and Technical Review
To date, ANTARES has performed over 100 energy audits, with another 50 reviews of third-party energy savings calculations in federal and other commercial facilities. We have worked extensively with hospitals, universities, military bases, and national parks to reduce their overall energy consumption. We’ve also investigated measures including (but not limited to) boiler upgrades, lighting retrofits, HVAC optimization, window replacements, and interior/exterior insulation improvements.
